HP 15s-eq1000 Laptop PC (1E870AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I have disabled sleep mode on my laptop when I close the lid. When I close it, the notebook starts to make sounds of disconnecting and connecting some USB device periodically (+- every 2 seconds). Nothing is recorded in the logs (I looked in USBDewiew). The problem is not displayed in the diagnostic program.
Maybe someone knows what it is and whether it can be solved?

Hi @ZetGO,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

The issue you're experiencing with your HP 15s-Eq1000 Laptop PC (1E870AV) making sounds of disconnecting and reconnecting a USB device when you close the lid could be due to several factors. Here are some steps you can take to diagnose and resolve the issue:

1. Check Power Settings

  • Ensure your power settings are configured correctly to prevent this issue.
    1. Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep.
    2. Click on Additional power settings.
    3. Select Change plan settings for your current power plan.
    4. Click on Change advanced power settings.
    5. Expand USB settings and then USB selective suspend setting.
    6. Disable USB selective suspend for both On battery and Plugged in.
    7. Expand Power buttons and lid and ensure that the action for closing the lid is set to Do nothing.

2. Update Drivers

  • Ensure that all your drivers, especially chipset and USB drivers, are up to date.
    1. Go to the HP support website and download the latest drivers for your model.
    2. Install the chipset drivers first, then the USB drivers.

3. BIOS Update

  • Sometimes, a BIOS update can resolve such issues.
    1. Visit the HP support website and locate the BIOS update for your model.
    2. Follow the provided instructions to update the BIOS.

4. Disable USB Power Management

  • Disabling USB power management can sometimes help with such issues.
    1. Open Device Manager by pressing Windows + X and selecting Device Manager.
    2. Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers section.
    3. Right-click each USB Root Hub and select Properties.
    4. Go to the Power Management tab and uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
    5. Repeat this for all USB Root Hubs.

Kindly check the next set of steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @ZetGO,

Please find the next set of steps below.

5. Check for Hardware Issues

  • It might be a hardware issue with the USB ports or connected devices.
    1. Disconnect all external USB devices and see if the issue persists when closing the lid.
    2. If the issue stops, reconnect each USB device one at a time to identify the problematic device.

6. Event Viewer Logs

  • Although you mentioned nothing is recorded in the logs, it's worth double-checking the Event Viewer for any related events.
    1. Press Windows + X and select Event Viewer.
    2. Expand Windows Logs and check System and Application logs for any relevant entries around the time you close the lid.

7. Windows USB Troubleshooter

  • Run the Windows USB troubleshooter to automatically detect and fix USB-related issues.
    1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
    2. Click on Additional troubleshooters.
    3. Find and run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter.

8. Check Power Options in BIOS

  • Ensure the power options in the BIOS are configured correctly.
    1. Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI setup by pressing the appropriate key (usually F2, F10, or DEL) during startup.
    2. Navigate to the power management settings and ensure they are set correctly, especially related to USB power.

Summary:

  1. Check Power Settings: Disable USB selective suspend and ensure the lid action is set to do nothing.
  2. Update Drivers: Ensure all drivers are up to date, especially chipset and USB drivers.
  3. BIOS Update: Update the BIOS to the latest version.
  4. Disable USB Power Management: Disable power management for USB Root Hubs in Device Manager.
  5. Check for Hardware Issues: Disconnect external USB devices and identify any problematic devices.
  6. Event Viewer Logs: Double-check Event Viewer for related logs.
  7. Windows USB Troubleshooter: Run the hardware and devices troubleshooter.
  8. Check Power Options in BIOS: Ensure BIOS power management settings are correct.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, it may be beneficial to contact HP phone support for further assistance as there might be a deeper underlying hardware issue.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
