I suspect a sound card which has failed on my HP Envy 15, as I get no audio through speakers or headphones. Both in Windows 10 and in Ubuntu, I get no sound card/no audio devices detected. Is there any way to run hardware diagnostics on my laptop to confirm whether it is a hardware issue, or whether it's a software problem?

It is soldered to the motherboard so if the connection is dodgy it is going to mean a new motherboard to have sound. You can use a usb soundcard dongle and headphones is about the only workaround.

You should be able to go into diagnostics (F2) as you power up. But if no sound in both Windows and Linux I think you have already diagnosed it.

I ran the diagnostics a few times, it passed once, failed twice, then the diagnostics refused to run, stating that the audio diagnostic was not supported on my system...? I presume this means there's a dodgy connection between the sound card and the mobo?
