Hi @Obateru_itunu,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problems with your touchpad, network settings, and audio on your new HP Core i5 laptop.

Touchpad Issues

  • Enable Touchpad: Sometimes the touchpad might be disabled. Look for a function key (usually with an icon of a touchpad) and press it, possibly in combination with the Fn key.
  • Check Settings: Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad (or Control Panel > Mouse > Touchpad depending on your Windows version) and ensure the touchpad is enabled.
  • Update Drivers: Go to Device Manager, find Mice and other pointing devices, right-click on your touchpad, and select Update driver. You can also visit HP’s support site to download the latest drivers.
  • Reinstall Drivers: If updating doesn’t help, uninstall the touchpad driver in Device Manager and restart your laptop. Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.

Network Settings

  • Check Wi-Fi Switch: Some laptops have a physical switch or a function key to enable/disable Wi-Fi. Make sure it's turned on.
  • Network Troubleshooter: Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status and run the network troubleshooter.
  • Update Network Drivers: In Device Manager, find Network adapters, right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter, and select Update driver. You can also download the latest driver from HP’s support site.
  • Reset Network Settings: Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status > Network reset to reset your network settings.

Audio Issues

  • Check Volume: Ensure that the volume is not muted or too low. Click the speaker icon in the system tray and adjust the volume.
  • Select Playback Device: Right-click the speaker icon in the system tray, select Open Sound settings, and make sure the correct playback device is selected.
  • Update Audio Drivers: In Device Manager, find Sound, video and game controllers, right-click on your audio device, and select Update driver.
  • Run Audio Troubleshooter: Go to Settings > System > Sound, and click on Troubleshoot under the Advanced section.

Note:

  • Windows Updates: Make sure your Windows is up to date. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
  • HP Support Assistant: Use the HP Support Assistant application to check for driver updates and perform diagnostics.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
