The audio input/the microphone is not working

I understand how inconvenient it is when the microphone suddenly stops working, especially when you need it for meetings or calls. Let's go through a few quick checks that often help resolve this issue.

  1. Restart your computer and check if the microphone starts working.

  2. Check the microphone permissions:
    • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone.
    • Make sure Microphone access and Let apps access your microphone are turned on.

  3. Verify the correct microphone is selected:
    • Open Settings > System > Sound.
    • Under Input, select your microphone and use the Test option to check if it's picking up your voice.

  4. Run the Recording Audio troubleshooter:
    • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
    • Run the Recording Audio troubleshooter and follow the on-screen instructions.

  5. Update the microphone driver:
    • Open Device Manager.
    • Expand Audio inputs and outputs.
  • Right-click your microphone and select Update driver.
