hp 15t-dw100
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The built in mic is very faint. I tried using my speaker mic and that doesn't seem to provide any difference. So I bought a lav mike - the Powerdwise lav mike. When I plug in the lav mike to the audio port, there is no sound and speakers also don't operate.

The OS is Windows 10 Pro with 19043.1110 as the OS version

So:

1. Do I have a TRRS compatible port? The lav comes with a jack to convert from TRRS to TRS if required.

2. Why doesn't it recognize the lav? I have looked at the Control Panel --> Sound--> Recording devices settings and don't find the lav mike as an option.

3. Once (if) I get past that, how do I move it forward to not cut out the speaker? I want to use the computers speakers and my external mike.

This is urgent, so any help is greatly appreciated!

BTW - corrected the device type to hp 15t-dw100

HP 1t - dw100 is an invalid product. A normal notebook has headphone/microphone combo port. Many of them do not support standalone microphones.

Thank you Banhien,

I was able to resolve it in the following manner:

  1. Got a Soundblaster X3 USB soundcard
  2. Attached the PowerDeWise lav mic on the front "mic" port using the TRRS to TRS adapter provided with the mic
  3. Configured the input on the Control->Settings->Sound to pick the USB sound card mic and the o/p to the realtek laptop speaker
  4. After that it seemed to work fine. I am now able to use the lav mic.

Your input helped me narrow the focus and get the soundcard. Analysis: HP needs to do a better job with their sound cards, especially in a hybrid work era.
