HP 14 inch Laptop PC 14-ep0000 (730S0AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Several amateur radio operators have reported excessively low audio levels when using soundcard interfaces such as the SignaLink USB with Windows 11 HP Laptops.

This is due to the Audio Enhancements property being turned on by default in Windows 11, which activates "AI Noise Removal."   Disable the Audio Enhancements button under the SignaLink USB Sound Settings properties to enable the adequate audio signal level from the SignaLink USB to the communications program.

Hi @cfmilazzo,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

To address the issue of low audio levels when using soundcard interfaces like the SignaLink USB with your HP 14-inch Laptop PC 14-ep0000 (730S0AV) on Windows 11, you can disable the "Audio Enhancements" feature, which includes the "AI Noise Removal" setting. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to disable the Audio Enhancements:

How to Disable Audio Enhancements in Windows 11

Open Sound Settings:

  • Right-click on the speaker icon in the system tray (bottom right corner of your screen).
  • Select Sound settings from the context menu.

Access Sound Control Panel:

  • In the Sound settings window, scroll down and click on More Sound Settings under the Advanced section. This will open the traditional Sound Control Panel.

Select the SignaLink USB Device:

  • In the Sound Control Panel, navigate to the Playback tab.
  • Locate and click on the SignaLink USB device (it might be labeled differently depending on your setup).

Open Properties:

  • Click on the Properties button at the bottom right of the Sound Control Panel after selecting the SignaLink USB device.

Disable Audio Enhancements:

  • In the Properties window, go to the Enhancements tab.
  • Check the box that says Disable all enhancements (if there is no specific option for AI Noise Removal).
  • If there's an option specifically labeled as AI Noise Removal, uncheck it directly.
  • Click Apply and then OK to save your changes.

Adjust Levels if Needed:

  • Go to the Levels tab within the same Properties window.
  • Adjust the audio levels as needed to ensure adequate signal strength.

Restart Audio Applications:

  • Close and restart any applications that use the SignaLink USB interface to ensure the changes take effect.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @cfmilazzo,

Please find the next steps below.

Additional Tips

Check for Driver Updates: Make sure that both Windows and the drivers for your SignaLink USB are up to date. This can help prevent issues related to audio enhancements being re-enabled by updates.

Test Different USB Ports: Sometimes, switching the USB port can resolve audio level issues by resetting the device configuration.

Reboot the System: After making these changes, reboot your laptop to ensure that the settings are fully applied.

By following these steps, you should be able to disable the enhancements that are affecting your audio levels, allowing the SignaLink USB to provide the correct signal strength to your communications programs.

if you encounter any further issues, I recommend you contact the phone support.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
