#1#1#2#2#3#3Dear Community,

I am unable to unmute audio after Windows update to Win. 11 23H2. I remember the audio (default) was working fine yesterday until I decided to perform Widows update (as I was getting notifications about it). I have tried the following but in vain:

(a). restart several times

(b). install the Realtek audio drivers from official HP website (thrice).

(c). Restore to a previous point (unfortunately there was only 1 restore point created by default, which was post upgrade). So, obviously this option is useless in my case.

In the device manager, under audio, I see no devices found. So, I do not have the option to repair or uninstall and reinstall the drivers. Is anyone facing the same issues and have rectified it?

Kindly provide a solution.

Hi @HK_Shetty,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the Windows update may have caused issues with the audio drivers or settings. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the problem.

Check Audio Settings:

  • Right-click the speaker icon in the system tray and select "Open Sound settings."
  • Make sure the correct output device is selected.
  • Check if the volume is turned up and not muted.

Run the Windows Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  • Select "Additional troubleshooters" and then "Playing Audio."
  • Run the troubleshooter and follow the prompts.

Check Device Manager:

  • Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
  • Expand the "Sound, video and game controllers" section. If no devices are listed or if there's a yellow exclamation mark, it indicates a problem.
  • Right-click on your audio device (if listed) and choose "Update driver" to search for updated drivers.

Reinstall Audio Drivers:

  • In Device Manager, if there are no devices listed, try scanning for hardware changes. Right-click on the computer name at the top of the list and select "Scan for hardware changes."
  • If your audio device appears, right-click it and select "Uninstall device," then restart your laptop. Windows should attempt to reinstall the drivers upon reboot.

Install Drivers from HP Support:

  • Visit the HP Support website and search for your specific Pavilion x360 model.
  • Download the latest audio drivers available and install them manually.

Check Windows Update:

  • Sometimes, additional updates are released to fix issues caused by earlier updates. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

Check BIOS Settings:

  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing F2, F10, or ESC during startup).
  • Ensure that the audio settings are enabled in the BIOS.

Reset Windows:

  • If none of the above steps work, you might consider resetting Windows. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery and select "Reset this PC." Choose to keep your files, but this will reinstall Windows and may fix the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
