I have upgraded my son's hp touchscreen pc's to have a new ssd , fresh install and windows 11. Sound plays as a pc, but when we press the hdmi-in button to run playstation or other input, no sound. All roads point to a missing driver but I can't get support as I presume it's too old?

Hi @Pco2024
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It seems like the HDMI-in audio issue might be related to driver compatibility with Windows 11. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:
Update Audio Drivers:
- Open Device Manager by pressing Windows + X and selecting it.
- Expand Sound, video, and game controllers and locate your audio driver (likely Realtek or IDT).
- Right-click the driver and select Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software. If no updates are found, visit the HP Support page to download the latest audio driver for your model.
Install Legacy Drivers:
- If Windows 11 drivers aren’t available, try installing Windows 10 drivers in compatibility mode:
- Download the driver from HP’s website.
- Right-click the installer file, select Properties, and go to the Compatibility tab.
- Check Run this program in compatibility mode for: and select Windows 10.
- Apply the changes and run the installer.
Check HDMI Audio Settings:
- Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar and select Sounds.
- Go to the Playback tab and ensure the HDMI device is set as the default audio output.
- If it’s not listed, right-click and select Show Disabled Devices, then enable the HDMI device.
Test with Another HDMI Cable:
- Faulty cables can cause audio issues. Try using a different HDMI cable to rule out hardware problems.
Update BIOS:
- Visit the HP Support page and check for BIOS updates for your model.
- Install the update to ensure compatibility with Windows 11.
Use External Audio:
- If the HDMI-in audio issue persists, consider connecting external speakers or headphones directly to the PlayStation or other input device.

Hmm, if your laptop envy Beats Audio from Realtek, maybe you can use Realtek Beats Audio 6.0.9239.1. The driver version was just created in 2021.
There are 2 ways to install it, install it by clicking on setup.exe, or install it via Device Manager after the file has been extracted twice (there is another zip inside the zip).
