When I turn the volume up or down on my PC, I see a second volume bar, and I don't know how to remove it. If anyone knows what I should do to remove it, I would greatly appreciate it. I have an HP Laptop 14-cm0xxx. Please help.

Hi @KAR0L,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're experiencing—seeing a second volume bar when adjusting sound on your HP Laptop 14-cm0xxx—is often caused by third-party audio software or overlay utilities that come pre-installed or are added later.

How to Remove the Second Volume Bar

1. Check for HP Audio Control or B&O Audio Software

HP laptops sometimes include Bang & Olufsen Audio Control or HP Audio Switch, which can create a second volume overlay.

  • Press Windows + R, type appwiz.cpl, and press Enter.
  • Look for:
    • HP Audio Switch
    • Bang & Olufsen Audio Control
  • If found, you can uninstall it to remove the second volume bar.

2. Disable Audio Enhancements

  • Go to Settings > System > Sound
  • Click Advanced sound settings > More sound settings
  • Under the Playback tab, select your default device > Properties
  • Go to the Enhancements tab and check Disable all enhancements

3. Check for Third-Party Apps

Apps like Dolby AudioRealtek HD Audio Manager, or Nahimic can also cause overlay issues.

  • Open Task Manager > Startup tab
  • Disable any third-party audio apps
  • Restart your PC and test the volume keys

4. Update or Reinstall Audio Drivers

  • Open Device Manager
  • Expand Sound, video and game controllers
  • Right-click your audio device > Update driver
  • Or uninstall and restart to let Windows reinstall it

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
