Omen laptop. Brand new. Learning Morse code and need to record sending via an external morse code oscillator making single tones. Speech records fine, but single tone is totally muted. Are there settings to change this ? Please advise.

Hi @Gene113,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To troubleshoot the issue of your HP Omen laptop not picking up the single tones from your Morse Code oscillator, you can check and adjust several audio settings on your Windows 11 system. Here are some steps you can take:
Microphone Sensitivity:
- Right-click on the speaker icon in your system tray and select "Open Sound settings."
- Under the "Input" section, select your microphone and click on "Device properties."
- Go to the "Additional device properties" link.
- In the "Levels" tab, adjust the microphone sensitivity or input level. Increase the sensitivity to make it more responsive to quieter sounds.
Enhancements:
- In the "Enhancements" tab of your microphone properties, make sure all enhancements are disabled. Sometimes, certain enhancements can filter out specific frequencies or distort the input.
Microphone Privacy Settings:
- In Windows 11, go to "Settings" > "Privacy" > "Microphone."
- Ensure that the application you're using to record Morse Code is allowed access to the microphone.
Sound Control Panel:
- Right-click on the speaker icon in your system tray and select "Open Sound settings."
- In the Sound settings, click on "Sound control panel" on the right side.
- In the "Recording" tab, select your microphone, and click on "Properties."
- Check the "Listen" tab and ensure that the "Listen to this device" option is unchecked.
Update Audio Drivers:
- Make sure your audio drivers are up-to-date. You can do this through the Device Manager by right-clicking on the Start button, selecting "Device Manager," finding your audio device under "Sound, video and game controllers," and updating the driver.
External Audio Software:
- If you're using external audio software, check its settings for any filters or adjustments that might be affecting the input.
Try a Different Recording Software:
- If you're using specific software to record Morse Code, try using a different recording application to see if the issue persists.
Check External Morse Code Oscillator:
- Ensure that your Morse Code oscillator is functioning correctly and is connected properly to your laptop.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.-
