I frequently use Skype to talk online and over the past 3 or 4 months I have had a bit of a struggle using it. Nothing has been wrong with Skype, but sometimes when I plug in headphones and a microphone I hear a loud humming or buzzing noise targetpayandbenefits.com

Replying to my own post from last night — disabling the B&O microphone control didn’t do anything except turn off the mic sound completely. From the number of people with the HP Envy who are reporting the same problem I have a feeling it’s a design flaw in the computer itself that didn’t become apparent until everyone was using VC apps. I’m afraid we’re stuck with the buzz!

I'm afraid I misled you.
I'm interested in whether the problem remains if you use battery power?
As for the driver, you may have up to date drivers but you may want to consider manually uninstalling them as per the linked material (if it applies to your model) before doing a reinstall.

I have tried it with it plugged in and with just battery powered. I can't see the instructions on what to try on the last post on how to use Microsoft Windows drivers and not HP supplied drivers. Otherwise I have just used my iphone.

I fixed the problem. It's not the battery or anything else -- the audio card has to be uninstalled and reinstalled so you get the HD version of the audio control and the latest driver. One of the people who posted in this chain included links to directions about how to do this -- I don't remember the details well enough to repeat them here. The bottom line is that the buzzing is gone and video calls are fine!

I assume (and hope, to be honest:) ) that you are talking about the link I gave a while ago. If so, I'm glad it worked. And for anyone else still facing the problem, here it is again. Depending on your model this guide may be all you need. Pay attention to the uninstalling part.
