Everytime (well most of the time) I plug in my headphones to listen to itunes I have no bass. With the headphones pluged in, I reboot the laptop and the bass is there. What gives, I have great Bose headphones and once I reboot they sound perfect. Can't figure this out. This also applies to when I use Bluetooth to my Bose speaker. Have to reboot the laptop before I get the bass. Anyone else have this problem. Maybe HP needs to look into this.

Welcome to HP Support Forums. A really great platform for posting all your questions and finding solutions.
I understand that you need to restart your Notebook to get the Bass to work.
I'll try my est to help you out.
May I know since when are you facing this issue?
I suggest you update the Audio driver from Device Manager.
- In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
- In the list of devices, look for Audio Inputs & Output, expand the list
- Right-click the Audio driver and select Update Driver Software.
- Click Search automatically for updated driver software.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the updated driver.
- Restart your computer to complete the installation of the updates.
Also ensure that Windows is up to date.
select the Start button, and then go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available.
Next update the BIOS from this Link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers
Keep me posted how it goes and let me know if you need further assistance
Thank you 🙂

I have had this laptop about 8 months now. I never used it too much in the past with headphones or bluetooth speaker. I do remember once a while back I had to reboot to get the music to play better. It wasn't until recently that I started using good heaphones and a bluetooth speaker that I noticed this issue.
1. I tried to update drivers, but it states that I already have the best drivers.
2. On Mar 24 2018, I received notice to updat BIOS which I did.
3. I always check Windows updates to see if anything needs to be downloaded. All OK
It just seems funny that I have to reboot the laptop to get the sound it should have. Once I do that the sound is perfect.
OK, as I am typing this post, I went and plugged in my headphones and opened Itunes. Played a song, and don't have the bass that should be there. The rest of the music seems OK, just no bass. I bet if I reboot the laptop now the bass will show up. Wierd
Edit: As expected, once I left the headphones plugged in (not sure if this matters) and restarted the laptop, the bass has arrived. So, something is not right. I shouldn't have to restart to get proper music. I haven't used the headphones since yesterday so this was the first attempt today.
Edit 2: Right after my previous edit, I unplugged the headphones, and closed down Itunes. Without restarting the laptop, I plugged in the headphones and opened Itunes. Once the song started playing the bass was there and the music was great. So, not sure what is going on.
Seems like something is messing with the Audio. I guess I will just have to keep experimenting to see if I can discover a pattern.

Is the issue only with iTunes? Please try playing music directly from your computer and also try using YouTube and let me know if the issue persists.
If the issue persists with other softwares or YouTube, I would request you to backup your data and perform a System Recovery.
- Turn off the computer.Disconnect all connected devices and cables such as Personal Media Drives, USB drives, printers, and faxes.
- Turn on the computer and repeatedly press the F11 key about once every second until the Choose an option screen is displayed, and then continue.
- On the Choose an Option screen, click Troubleshoot.
- On the Troubleshoot screen, click Recovery Manager.
- Under Help, click System Recovery.
- When Recovery Manager prompts you to back up your files, select a backup option:
- The Welcome to HP Recovery Manager screen is displayed. Read the on-screen information, and then disconnect any connected devices and cables, such as Personal Media Drives, USB drives, printers, and faxes.
- Remove media from internal drives, and remove any recently added internal hardware.
- Click Next to continue.
- When recovery preparation is complete, click Continue to proceed to the installation phase of the recovery process. The computer restarts several times during the recovery. This is normal. Do not close, shut down, or disconnect the computer while HP Recovery runs.
- Recovery Manager reformats the Windows partition and reinstalls the original software.
- After the system recovery is complete, click Finish to restart the computer. Complete the setup screens and wait until the computer finishes the setup.
- Once the setup is complete, turn off the computer, reconnect all devices and cables, and then turn on the computer.
- Before using the computer, update and protect your computer by reinstalling any virus and security software that was installed before the system recovery.
- Reinstall any software programs that were added after purchasing the computer, as well as any files that were backed up.
- Complete all the Windows update
Keep me posted
Thanks

I am not sure about system recovery since I recently within the last month set the laptop back to original factory configuration again due to my WiFi driver issues. I just can't see another system recovery will do any good. Today I checked again, and it appears that sending the music through bluetooth to my Bose Revolve speaker works fine. Once I set audio to play through my headphones, Microsoft Groove Music, or Youtube, I get no bass until I reboot the laptop. I uninstalled the audio drivers and rebooted, but that did no good. Is there another set of drivers available for this Realtek High Def audio.
Edit: OK, here seems to be the pattern. If I plug the headphones in, and try to play through Itunes, Groove Music, or Youtube, I will NOT get the bass until I reboot as long as I eave the heaphones plugged in. If if disconnect the headphones and reconnect, I will have to reboot the laptop to get the bass back. The bluetooth seems to be OK regardless.

I was going to call Tech Support, but to the right of the forum page it had a "Looking for Drivers" link that I fgured why not try. After searching for the drivers for my model I downloaded them, and it actually uninstalled the original drivers before installing the new ones. Well, so for I have no problems with the audio. I unplugged the headphones, exited itunes and back again, and everything is working fine. Go figure. Hopefully, this fixed the problem.
Using device manager to uninstall the drivers is useless. The HP recovery drivers did not fix the issue. These that showed up on the HP site seem to be working. I believe they were for Win 10 Audio drivers dated 2016. Please don't delete these drivers.
