Hi @Etienne44,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC (15-fd0000) running Windows 11 23H2 is not recognizing the audio driver despite HP identifying it as installed and correct, you can try the following steps to resolve the issue:
1. Check Windows Audio Settings
- Right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and select "Open Sound settings."
- Ensure that the correct output device is selected in the Output section.
- If the correct device is listed but not working, try switching between the available output devices.
2. Update the Audio Driver
Even though HP finds the audio driver installed, it might not be fully compatible with the latest Windows update (23H2). You can manually update the audio driver:
- Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video, and game controllers.
- Right-click on your audio device (it may appear as Realtek, Intel, or another audio chipset).
- Select Update driver and choose Search automatically for drivers.
- If no updates are found, choose Browse my computer for drivers and select the folder where the HP audio driver is stored or manually download it from HP’s website.
3. Reinstall the Audio Driver
If updating doesn't work, try reinstalling the driver:
- Go to Device Manager and right-click your audio device.
- Select Uninstall device, check the box for Delete the driver software for this device, and click Uninstall.
- Restart your computer, and Windows will attempt to reinstall the audio driver automatically.
- If it doesn’t, go to HP’s support website and manually download and install the latest audio driver for your laptop model.
4. Run the Windows Audio Troubleshooter
- Press Win + I to open Settings.
- Navigate to System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
- Scroll down to Playing Audio and click Run to start the troubleshooter.
5. Check for Windows Updates
Sometimes, the latest Windows updates might include fixes for driver issues:
- Go to Settings > Windows Update and click Check for updates.
- Install any available updates and restart your PC.
6. Check HP Support Assistant
If the issue persists, try using HP Support Assistant to detect and install missing or outdated drivers:
- Open HP Support Assistant from the Start menu or download it from the HP website.
- Run a full system scan to detect missing or outdated drivers and install any recommended updates.
7. Roll Back the Audio Driver
If the issue began after an update, rolling back to the previous version might help:
- In Device Manager, right-click on the audio device, select Properties, go to the Driver tab, and click Roll Back Driver if the option is available.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
