Hi @meep7,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I'm sorry to hear that you're facing issues with Windows Voice Access on your HP 14-dq0000 Laptop PC. It must be frustrating, especially when other speech-related functions work fine. Let’s work together to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.
- Have you checked if the correct microphone is selected in the Voice Access settings, and does it show any input activity when you speak?
- After running Voice Access, does the distorted sound affect only certain applications, or does it impact the entire system audio?
- Have you recently updated your audio drivers or Windows, and did the issue start after any particular update?
Let's try these steps.
Check Microphone Permissions and Default Settings:
- Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone, and ensure that Voice Access has permission to use the microphone.
- Navigate to Settings > System > Sound > Input, and make sure the correct microphone is set as default with an appropriate input level.
Run Windows Troubleshooter:
- Open Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters, and run the Recording Audio and Speech troubleshooters to detect and fix any issues.
Disable Audio Enhancements:
- Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select Sound settings > More sound settings.
- In the Recording tab, select your microphone, click Properties > Enhancements, and check Disable all enhancements.
- Similarly, check the Playback settings for enhancements that might be causing sound distortion.
Update/Reinstall Audio Drivers:
- Open Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager).
- Expand Audio inputs and outputs, right-click your microphone and speakers, and select Update driver > Search automatically.
- If the issue persists, try uninstalling the drivers and restarting your laptop to let Windows reinstall them automatically.
Reset Voice Access and Speech Settings:
- Go to Settings > Accessibility > Speech, and toggle off Voice Access, restart your laptop, and enable it again.
- Reset speech recognition by going to Settings > Time & Language > Speech, and click Reset speech settings.
If the issue persists, it might be worth testing with an external microphone to determine if it's a hardware-related issue.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
