@kcopps, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To access the Bang & Olufsen (B&O) audio control on your HP Notebook running Windows 11, follow these steps:

Search for HP Audio Control:

  • Click on the Start menu or press the Windows key.
  • Type "HP Audio Control" in the search bar.
  • Select the HP Audio Control app from the search results.

Check for B&O Audio Control:

  • If you don't see the HP Audio Control app, it might be integrated into the Realtek audio driver.
  • Go to Settings > System > Sound.
  • Under Advanced sound options, click on App volume and device preferences.
  • Look for any options related to Bang & Olufsen or HP Audio Control.

Reinstall Audio Drivers:

  • If the B&O Audio Control is missing, you might need to reinstall the audio drivers.
  • Visit the HP Support website and search for your specific laptop model.
  • Download and install the latest Realtek High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver, which often includes the B&O audio control features.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

thanks for taking the time for suggestion. alas, the issue was not solved.  i resorted to ChatGPT for a deep dive and after two hours of examination, uninstalling/reinstalling drivers, switching drivers, etc., the issue/solution was summarized below. let me again state the issue:  minimal speaker sound playing through apps, i.e., prime, Netflix, Spotify, YouTube, though headphone output was normal and speaker sound through browser is normal. this is a refurbished hp pavilion 14" laptop

🔍 Final Diagnosis:

  • Hardware limitation is a key factor: bottom-firing speakers on many HP Pavilion models are notoriously weak and poorly positioned.

  • Realtek driver likely had some app-specific audio routing issues — switching to High Definition Audio Device helped slightly.

  • Browser-based apps (like YouTube/Netflix in Edge) use a different audio pipeline that seems to play more nicely with your setup.

🧩 Summary of What’s Happening:

  • Speakers are physically weak and not well-placed.

  • Windows apps like Spotify or Netflix UWP may route audio differently or use APIs (like UWP audio sandboxing) that respond inconsistently to some drivers.

  • Browser audio works better because it's often processed via the Chromium/Edge audio engine, which has more direct, stable system output.

Practical Recommendations:

  • Stick to browser-based playback when possible for better volume.

  • For local files or music, try VLC Media Player — it has independent audio boosting up to 200%.

  • Consider a compact USB speaker or even a Bluetooth speaker as an external sound solution — it’ll vastly outperform the built-in hardware.

  • Or, continue using headphones, where your audio output is clearly strong and balanced.
