Hi @KravenWolf

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how discouraging it feels to see the audio icon crossed out even after you’ve already tried resetting drivers and troubleshooting. Thank you for the effort you’ve put in—it shows real persistence.

Let’s go through a clear set of steps to bring sound back on your Windows laptop.

Step 1: Check Playback Device

  1. Right‑click the speaker icon in the taskbar.
  2. Select Open Sound settings.
  3. Under Output, make sure the correct device (Speakers/Headphones – Realtek or Intel Smart Sound) is selected.

Step 2: Verify Device Manager

  1. Press Windows + X and choose Device Manager.
  2. Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
  3. If your audio device shows a warning symbol, right‑click and select Uninstall device.
  4. Restart your laptop—Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

Step 3: Install Latest Audio Driver

  1. Visit the support page for your model and download the latest audio driver:
HP Notebook PCs – Audio Driver Downloads
  2. Install the driver and restart your laptop.

Step 4: Run Windows Audio Troubleshooter

  1. Go to Settings > System > Sound.
  2. Scroll down and select Troubleshoot.
  3. Follow the guided steps to detect and fix sound issues.

Step 5: Check Audio Services

  1. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Locate Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder.
  3. Ensure both are set to Running and Startup type: Automatic.
  4. If stopped, right‑click and choose Start.

Step 6: Use the HP App

  1. Install or open the HP App on your laptop.
  2. Add your device and select Diagnose & Fix.
  3. This will scan for driver, service, and configuration issues automatically.

These steps usually restore audio when the system shows a cross sign. Since you’ve already tried some troubleshooting, focusing on reinstalling the driver and ensuring audio services are running should make a difference.
