Hi all

Have been trying to get a audio notification sound for all notifications on windows 10 input via control panel in sounds selected the one i want ,tested it ok clicked "apply" then ok after which it takes you out of the control panel!.

the sound is NOT being applied as when the pop ups appear they are still silent!.

I have looked at the problem via online(google search) and it tells me that an installed program may be "blocking" the changes from being applied!. and i should try removing them however i have no idea which one(s) it might be!.

Does anyone have experience of this , or any idea which programs i should try taking out?.

thanks in advance for any help you can offer as its driving me nutds!

cheers

Steve

Hi@Steve-meade, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand the issue with the audio issue,

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?

Please share the product number of your PC to assist you better.

Excellent description and a great diagnosis are done. It is greatly appreciated.

I understand that you have an HP ENVY x360 - m6-aq105dx laptop. I read that the notification sounds for emails, calendar updates, recycle bin are not working in Windows 10. You have been through the Win10 settings and the issue persists. You've done a remarkable job performing the steps. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.

To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • When was the last time the notifications worked fine?
  • Did any software changes or updates happen after which the notifications sound stopped working?

Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • If this issue started recently then I suggest you to perform a Microsoft System Restore and roll back the laptop to an earlier date when everything worked fine. This does not delete your data.

If the notification sounds do not work then please check if the below steps have been performed:

02_clicking_all_settings

  • On the main Settings screen, click the “System” option.

03_clicking_system_in_settings

  • Click the “Notifications & actions” category.

04_clicking_notifications_and_actions

  • Under the “Notifications” section, the “Get notifications from apps and other senders” option allows you to turn on notifications.

05_turning_notifications_off_and_on

  • Below the main Notifications options, there are options to disable/enable certain apps from displaying notifications. You can also choose notification settings for each of these apps individually. To customize notifications for a specific app, click on that app in the list. For example, we want to see notifications from Outlook when we get new emails, but we’d rather not hear a sound every time, so we click “Outlook 2016” in the list.

06_clicking_outlook

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
