Hi @Domenico10,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Experiencing a freeze when adjusting the volume on your HP Spectre x360 16 can be frustrating. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue.

Update Audio Drivers:

Even if you have updated the drivers, make sure you're using the latest version from the HP support website or the official website of your audio hardware manufacturer (e.g., Realtek).

  1. Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads.
  2. Enter your product name (HP Spectre x360 16) and select your operating system.
  3. Download and install the latest audio driver.

Check for Windows Updates:

Ensure your Windows OS is up to date, as updates can fix underlying issues.

  1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  2. Click Check for updates and install any available updates.

Disable Audio Enhancements:

Audio enhancements can sometimes cause issues with volume control.

  1. Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select Sounds.
  2. Go to the Playback tab, select your playback device, and click Properties.
  3. In the Enhancements tab, check the box for Disable all enhancements.
  4. Click Apply and then OK.

Restart Audio Services:

Restarting Windows audio services can sometimes fix freezing issues.

  1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Locate and restart the following services:
    • Windows Audio
    • Windows Audio Endpoint Builder
  3. Right-click each service and select Restart.

Run Audio Troubleshooter:

Windows has a built-in troubleshooter for audio issues.

  1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  2. Click Additional troubleshooters.
  3. Select Playing Audio and run the troubleshooter.

Check for Conflicting Software:

Certain software might conflict with audio functions. Try disabling or uninstalling recently installed software that might affect audio.

System File Check:

Corrupted system files can cause freezing issues.

  1. Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
  2. Type sfc /scannow and press Enter.
  3. Allow the scan to complete and follow any instructions provided.

Check for BIOS/UEFI Updates:

Sometimes a BIOS/UEFI update can resolve hardware compatibility issues.

  1. Go to the HP support website.
  2. Download and install the latest BIOS/UEFI update for your model.

Resetting the PC:

As a last resort, you can reset your PC to factory settings, but this will remove all installed applications and personal settings.

  1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery.
  2. Select Reset this PC and choose the appropriate option (Keep my files or Remove everything).

By following these steps, you should be able to identify and potentially fix the issue causing your HP Spectre x360 16 to freeze when adjusting the volume.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
