Hi there!
I ve just purchased my new HP laptop and came across that it doesnt have stereo mix in the input devices.
I only can see Microphone array intel smart sound technology (intel SST).
Ive been googling how to get the stereo mix, but no solutions worked.
Iv seen many ppl posted about it in 2016...2017, but now its 2020, and still no solution for it?

Welcome to the HP support community.
Update the Bios, chipset, and audio drivers using HP Support Assistant.
Download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: Click here
HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook
-
Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
-
Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
-
Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
-
Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
-
Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.
Also ensure Windows is up to date.
Select the Start button, and then go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available
Let me know how it goes.

Hi!
I downloaded HP Support Assistant.
My application looks a bit different than the one you share a screenshot of.
I went on updates. First it did not do but went fail. Then I clicked the install now button next to each of them 1 by 1. Finally I cleaned that up, and it shows up to date.
Then I went on windows updates as well. Up to date as well.
I hasn't changed anything unfortunately.
I attached a few screenshot for you to review.

This might require remote access to the computer to fix the issue.
I request you to talk to HP's support.
They might have multiple options to help you with this.
- Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
- Select the country.
- Enter the serial of your device.
- Select the country from the drop-down.
- Click on "Show Options".
- Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
I hope that helps.

Hi.
I've been down that road already.
You are already for helpful than them.
They were not willing to dial into my laptop due to covid. This excuse is used for everything nowadays. 😞
I had to explain to that woman what stereo mix means, and she was the 3rd person I was talking to, called hp spectre specialist, because the first 2, lets say did not have enough knowledge of hp spectre laptops.
Could YOU remotely connect to my pc ?
First obviously googled things about stereo mix missing and many people complained here back since 2016.
But I did not find any solution. So then I tried hp tech support, then specialist (they call themselves), in writing, on the phone, and they just reluctant to put more effort inti fixing their stuff.
Thats why I am asking you if you could look into it a bit deeper. Who else if not hp support should fix this?
I dont really see different option.
Thanks

Make Sure Your Microphone is Available for Access
Click the cog icon in the lower-left section of the Start menu to open the Settings app. You can also search for it.
Opening Settings from the Start menu
- Scroll down until you see the Privacy section and make sure you click on it. At the left side of the window, you should see the App permissions section. Scroll down until you reach Microphone and click on this option.
- First of all, check if the Microphone access for this device option is on. If it’s not, click on Change and set the slider to on.
Providing microphone access
- After that, switch the slider under the “Allow apps to access your microphone” option to On and scroll down in the list of installed apps on your computer. Switch the slider next to the apps you wish to provide access for on the list to on.
- Restart your computer in order to see whether the problem still appears!
Show Disabled DevicesShow Disabled Devices
- Right-click on the Volume icon located at the bottom right part of your screen and choose the Sounds option. An alternative way would be to open the Control Panel on your PC and set the View by option to Large icons. After that, locate and click on the Sounds option to open the same window.
- Navigate to the Recording tab of the Sound window which just opened up.
Stereo Mix showing up as disabled
- Right-click anywhere in the middle of the window and check the boxes next to the Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices options. Stereo Mix should now appear. Right-click on it and choose the Enable option from the context menu which will appear.
- Make sure you try it out in order to see if it works!
Let me know how it goes.

HI!
Ive done the steps to allow the mic. My menu looked slightly different but i found the mic access change button...it was in already. I did turn off and on again.
Checked for disabled and disconnected devices, but no luck. Still only microphone appears.
I also tried 1 thing. I installed Oracle, to create virtual machine.
I created win xp, win8.1 and win 10 enterprise.
All of them show only microphone realtek high definition.
So its still not showing.
