I have had this problem for quite some time with clearly no solution found as of yet! i have been doing what i have found in solutions for other people issues similar to mine but i have thing missing on my laptop in there steps to do? In audio diagnostics it come up as the microphone or headset is unplugged - Detected. the driver is HdAudio.sys Version 10.0.22621.2506. In device manager under Audio it only has speakers. no microphone , in sound, video and gaming i can not see anything that could be referred to a microphone. i tried to search for the AMD Graphics drivers and could not find them on laptop. In sound under record I have show Disabled and disconnected devices on. Shows microphone not plugged in. I went into the BIOS settings on start up, security setting. i looked for internal microphone and again none was listed? my windows has been updated as with firmware. in the past I had no issue with the internal microphone? I am just totally at a loss on the next strep to do... please can someone help... I've also added some photos hoping these may help.TIA

@Pebbles72, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Thanks for sharing all the details and the screenshot, and I can sense how frustrating this lingering microphone issue must be — especially when it used to work perfectly in the past.
Here’s a full plan to diagnose and hopefully revive your internal microphone:
Check if the microphone hardware is still detected
You mentioned nothing shows in Device Manager under “Audio inputs and outputs” except Speakers.
Open Device Manager.
Expand:
Sound, video and game controllers
Audio inputs and outputs
If Microphone is not listed under either, click View > Show hidden devices. Still nothing? Then:
Reinstall Realtek HD Audio Drivers (not just generic HD Audio)
Go to HP’s official page:
👉 HP ENVY - 13-aq1076tu Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
Download:
Realtek High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver (don’t rely on Windows Update).
Uninstall current audio driver:
In Device Manager, right-click High Definition Audio Device > Uninstall device.
Tick "Delete the driver software for this device" if available.
Restart your PC.
Install the Realtek driver you downloaded.
Force Windows to Re-detect Audio Devices
If Realtek installs successfully but still no mic:
Open Device Manager again.
Click Action > Scan for hardware changes.
Check again under “Audio inputs and outputs” and “Sound, video and game controllers.”
Also, I suggest you refer to this guide for further troubleshooting steps: HP PCs - Microphone troubleshooting (Windows 10) | HP® Support
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
