@ian304, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding microphone issue!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand you are having trouble with your microphone. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Check Device Manager:

  • Open Device Manager by right-clicking on Start and selecting 'Device Manager'.
  • Look under 'Sound, video and game controllers' or 'Audio inputs and outputs' for your microphone.
  • If it's not listed, click on 'Action' at the top and choose 'Scan for hardware changes' to see if Windows can recognize it again.

Re-enable the Microphone:

  • Go to the Sound settings by right-clicking the sound icon in the bottom-right corner of your screen and selecting 'Sounds'.
  • Open the 'Recording' tab and see if your microphone is listed as disabled.
  • If it is, right-click on the microphone and select 'Enable'.

Update Drivers:

  • In Device Manager, right-click on your microphone, and choose 'Update driver'.
  • Select 'Search automatically for updated driver software' and follow the prompts.

Check Connections:

  • Ensure the microphone is correctly plugged into the correct port.

System Restore:

  • If nothing else works, consider performing a system restore to a point before the changes were made.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
