Hi @Meemoo,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're not getting sound on your Victus by HP 16.1-inch Gaming Laptop, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the issue.
Check Volume Settings
- Ensure that the volume is turned up and not muted.
- Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select "Open Sound settings." Make sure the correct output device is selected.
Check Audio Output Device
- In the Sound settings, ensure that the output device is set to your laptop’s speakers.
- If you're using headphones or external speakers, ensure they are properly connected.
Restart Your Laptop
- A simple restart can sometimes fix temporary audio glitches.
Update Audio Drivers
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
- Right-click your audio device and select Update driver. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
Run the Audio Troubleshooter
- Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select Troubleshoot sound problems. Follow the on-screen instructions to detect and fix any issues.
Check for Windows Updates
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and make sure your system is fully updated, as audio issues can sometimes be resolved with the latest updates.
Reinstall Audio Driver
- In Device Manager, right-click your audio device and select Uninstall device. Restart your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the necessary drivers.
Check the Audio Services
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- In the list of services, locate Windows Audio. Right-click it and select Restart. Also, ensure the service is set to Automatic.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

I can't stress this enough. None of these things worked. I've already tried all of your suggestions--Microsoft did too on the phone for over an hour. When I run HP diagnostics, the sound tests come through just fine. However, once I get into the machine, all of these things have been done. When I try to run "Troubleshoot Sound Problems", it tells me that no sound devices are found. This only just started on Monday. Before that, I got sound just fine. I didn't do anything to remove my speakers, it just happened. So, thank you for your suggestions, but they don't fix the problem. My guess is that it's a Windows update problem, but Microsoft has DAK (Denied All Knowledge). They tried all of these things and finally decided that it was a hardware problem and I needed to go to HP. That's not working either.
