Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fa1000 (771S7AV)

I plug my headphones into my laptop, and they are only recognized as a output, not a input. The laptop uses my headphones to play audio, but uses my laptops built in mic to talk to others in game. i have not had a problem like this up until i got a external monitor for Christmas. the laptop only uses Microphone array for input, and doesn't recognize my headphones as an input.

No, headphones can NOT be an input device, must be an OUTPUT device. For machines which have combo jack you can use a headset and  machine will see both microphone (input) headphones (output).
