HP Pavilion 14 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

firstly. when i resumed my laptop, there's a red cross on my audio icon. so i clicked it, and it went to do troubleshooting. it said that there's something wrong with the realtek hd audio driver, so i looked it up in the internet, and some said that i need to uninstall it, so i did.

Then, i tried to download the one from the hp software and driver download, and tried to install it. but whenever i tried to do this, there's always an error. at first the error code is always 0x00000017 (it repreated for like 6 times) and then it changed to 0x000005B4.

anyway it's HP Pavilion 14 Notebook PC, windows 8.1 64 bit.

thankyou very much!!

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Forums.

I came across your post and would like to assist.

I understand that you have an HP Pavilion 14 series laptop and there is a red cross on the audio icon. During troubleshooting, you got a message saying "there was something wrong with the realtek HD audio driver". You have tried to install the drivers and an error appears with a code. I appreciate your efforts in troubleshooting this issue and have certainly done a good job.

To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this:

  • What is the exact laptop model number. This link will help in finding the model number: https://hp.care/2fzXWAI
  • Did any software changes or updates happen on your laptop recently?
  • Are you the administrator on the laptop?

While you respond to that. I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Let us download and run the HP Support Assistant tool. This tool will scan the laptop and install the required drivers.
  • Click here to download the HP Support Assistant tool.
  • Click My devices on the top of the HP Support Assistant window, and then click Updates in the window for your device.

Figure : Updates in the My PC box

    The Updates window opens.

  • If HP Support Assistant detects updates, a list of updates displays in the Updates available window.

    Figure : Updates window

     Updates window
  • To check for recent updates, click Check for updates and messages.

HP Support Assistant connects to the HP servers and performs the following actions:

    • Downloads messages and updates

    • Gathers configuration information

    • Analyzes your computer system

    • Prepares an action list

If HP Support Assistant finds updates, they display in the Updates available window.

    • To postpone or delete a current update, use the following steps.

      1. Next to the message you want to postpone, click Remind me.

      2. Select Tomorrow, One week, or One month, depending on when you want to be reminded.

    • To delete an update, click  next to the update.

    • To install the update now, click the Install now icon () next to the update.

    • To review completed and postponed actions, scroll down to the Action log section.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Keep me posted for further assistance.

Cheers! 🙂
