HP Envy x360 Laptop 16-ac0033dx microphone issue

Hi!!

My laptop's microphone isn't working. The volume is always at maximum, but it doesn't detect any sound input or voice recording.

I've tried all kinds of drivers and downgraded from Windows 11 to 10, and nothing seems to help. I've disconnected the webcam, but the strange thing is that my laptop still detects the microphone at maximum volume. Why is that if the microphones are on the webcam?

Should I replace my webcam, or is it a motherboard issue?

My laptop's specifications are:

HP Envy x360 Laptop 16-ac0033dx
Intel Ultra 7 155u
32GB LPDDR5

@Gerard841, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Hi! Thanks for the detailed info—let’s troubleshoot your HP Envy x360 microphone issue. Since you've already tried driver changes and OS downgrades, let’s narrow things down and answer your key question:

Completely Remove ISST Drivers

Open Device Manager

Under Sound, video and game controllers, uninstall:

Intel Smart Sound Technology for Digital Microphones

Intel Smart Sound Technology Audio Controller

Check under System Devices and remove any Intel SST OED or similar

Install OEM HP Audio Drivers Manually

Go to HP’s support site: HP Envy 16-ac0033dx Drivers

Download the Realtek audio driver that includes ISST (usually bundled)

Reboot and test mic input via Sound Settings > Input > Test Microphone

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
