I perused through the other posts for this answer and nothing has worked thus far. I tried uninstalling the realtek audio driver and no success. I read that maybe it was associated with the AMD radeon graphics adapter so I uninstalled/reinstalled to no avail. Microphone is still not detected in audio input devices. Only thing that shows up for input devices is "stereo mix" which does not seem to function as a microphone. Ran a diagnostics test and it just activated the stereo mix as you can see but otherwise detected no issues:

Any suggestions on how to fix would be helpful.

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

 

Since the diagnostics show no issues found but your microphone isn’t detected and only Stereo Mix appears, that means Windows can’t see your Realtek audio input device at all. Let’s go through some steps to restore the internal microphone on your HP 255 G10 Notebook (78U77AV) running Windows 11.

 

Reinstall the HP Realtek Audio Driver (not the Windows one)

Go to support.hp.com → Drivers & Software.

Enter your model: HP 255 15.6-inch G10 Notebook PC (78U77AV).

Under Audio, download and install the Realtek High-Definition Audio Driver made for Windows 11 (64-bit).

Restart your laptop after installation.

(Important — using the HP-supplied driver re-enables the internal microphone array; the generic Windows or AMD audio package does not.)

 

Enable and Show Hidden Input Devices

Right-click the sound iconSound settings → scroll to *Input → More sound settings.

In the Recording tab, right-click inside the list → check Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices.

If you see Microphone Array or Internal Microphone, right-click it → EnableSet as Default Device.

 

Reset Windows Audio Services

Press Windows + R, type services.msc, press Enter.

Find these three services:

Windows Audio

Windows Audio Endpoint Builder

Realtek Audio Service (if listed)

Right-click each → Restart.

 

Check Privacy and App Permissions

Go to Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone.

Ensure Microphone access and Let apps access your microphone are both turned On.

 

Update BIOS and Chipset

In HP Support Assistant, click Updates → install all available BIOS and Chipset updates.

Restart the system again.

 

If Still Missing

If the internal microphone still doesn’t appear after those steps:

Boot to HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI (power on → tap Esc → F2 → Component Tests → Audio).

If the microphone test fails or the device isn’t listed, it confirms a hardware or connector fault on the microphone array board — service may be required.

Hello, I don't know if you've already solved this problem, but I found a solution. I don't know if it will be permanent or temporary. It involves downloading the driver from https://www.driveridentifier.com/scan/amd-audio-coprocessor-driver/download/741628838/ FE759E8E17C34F2498E7303E418A8A39/PCI%5CVEN_1022%26DEV_15E2%26REV_01
It's the only solution I found. I hope this helps.
