Hi @Lipun2023,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

It sounds like the mute button on your HP 15-dy2795wm laptop is functioning properly, but the indicator light that shows whether the mute function is active is not working. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially fix the issue:

1. Restart Your Laptop

  • Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve minor glitches with hardware indicators. Try restarting your laptop to see if the light comes back on.

2. Update Audio and Keyboard Drivers

  • Outdated or corrupted drivers can cause issues with hardware components like keyboard lights. Update your audio and keyboard drivers through Device Manager:
    • Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
    • Expand Sound, video, and game controllers, then right-click on your audio device (e.g., Realtek, Conexant) and select Update driver.
    • Expand Keyboards, right-click on your keyboard device, and select Update driver.
  • Restart your laptop after updating the drivers.

3. Check for Windows Updates

  • Ensure your system is up to date with the latest Windows updates:
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
    • Click on Check for updates and install any available updates.

4. Perform a Power Reset

  • A power reset can sometimes fix issues with hardware components:
    • Shut down your laptop.
    • Disconnect any external devices.
    • Unplug the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
    • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge any residual power.
    • Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then turn on your laptop.

5. Check BIOS Settings

  • Sometimes, hardware indicators can be controlled through the BIOS. Check if there’s an option related to keyboard backlighting or mute button indicators:
    • Restart your laptop and press the BIOS key (usually F10, Esc, or Del) during startup.
    • Look for settings related to the keyboard or audio, and ensure they are enabled.

6. Perform a System Test Using HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Use the built-in HP Hardware Diagnostics tool to check for any hardware issues:
    • Turn off your laptop.
    • Turn it back on and repeatedly press the F2 key to open the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
    • Run a keyboard test to see if it detects any issues with the mute button light.

7. Reset Your Laptop’s Keyboard Settings

  • Resetting the keyboard settings to default may help:
    • Go to Settings > Devices > Typing.
    • Scroll down and click on Advanced keyboard settings.
    • Click Input language hotkeys and reset to defaults if available.

If the light still doesn’t work after these steps, it may be a hardware issue with the mute button indicator light itself. In that case, you might need to contact HP support or take it to the nearest service center.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
