so my laptops mic doesnt work in either zoom or any app that uses the mic , it says that there is a mic in device manager and even in zoom but when using there is no sound input   , i checked settings if the mic level might have been reduced but its normal but when i talk there is no deflections in the test bar .

the microphones are integrated besides the webcam and i have noticed a slight warmness when opening the latop near the webcams

@ayyxsh, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're experiencing issues with the built-in microphone on your HP Laptop 15, it's detected in Device Manager and Zoom, but there's no sound input.

Let’s walk through some steps to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve this without needing a hardware replacement.

Check Microphone Privacy Settings

Windows 11 may be blocking apps from accessing the microphone.

  1. Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone.
  2. Ensure Microphone access is turned On.
  3. Make sure "Let apps access your microphone" is also On.
  4. Scroll down and ensure apps like Zoom have permission.

Reinstall or Update Audio Drivers

Corrupted or outdated drivers can cause mic issues.

  1. Press Windows + X > Device Manager.
  2. Expand Audio inputs and outputs.
  3. Right-click on your microphone (e.g., Microphone Array) > Uninstall device.
  4. Restart your laptop — Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

Alternatively, you can update the driver:

Download and install the latest Realtek Audio Driver for Windows 11.

Run the Windows Troubleshooter

  1. Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  2. Find Recording Audio and click Run.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Check Sound Control Panel

  1. Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar > Sound settings.
  2. Scroll down and click More sound settings.
  3. Under the Recording tab, ensure the correct microphone is set as default.
  4. Speak into the mic and check if the green bars move.

Test in HP Hardware Diagnostics

HP laptops come with built-in diagnostics to test hardware.

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Press Esc repeatedly, then F2 to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  3. Select Component Tests > Audio > Microphone Test.
  4. Follow the prompts to test the mic.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
