Microphone not working

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand that the microphone on your HP Notebook is not working. Please follow the steps below to resolve the issue.

 

Step 1: Check Microphone Hardware

  • Ensure the microphone is properly connected (if external). 
  • If it has its own power or volume control, make sure it is turned ON, and the volume is set to mid/high level
  • Try connecting the microphone to a different port or another device to confirm it is working.

Step 2: Update Audio Driver

  1. Connect your PC to the internet. 
  2. Open Device Manager
  3. Expand Sound, video and game controllers
  4. Right-click your audio device → Update driver
  5. Select Search automatically for drivers and install updates if available. 

 

Step 3: Run Windows Update

  1. Search for Check for updates in Windows. 
  2. Install all available updates, including Optional updates
  3. Restart the computer after installation. 

 

Step 4: Run Audio Troubleshooter

  1. Open Control Panel → Troubleshooting
  2. Click Other troubleshooters
  3. Run the Audio troubleshooter and follow the on-screen steps.
