I have a HP 17.3" Laptop, AMD Ryzen 3, AI Enabled, 8GB RAM, 256GB Solid State Drive, Wi-Fi 6, Windows® 11 Home (17-cp2134od) and my microphone is not working. It stopped working about two weeks ago. I can hear people in meetings but they don't hear me even when I am unmuted by host in zoom, teams, skype, etc meetings. It doesn't even work to dictate into Word. Any suggestions?

@Lisa2080, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your microphone not working!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
It sounds like your microphone might be disabled, misconfigured, or have a driver issue. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and fix the issue:
Check Physical and Basic Settings
Unmute the Mic
- If your laptop has a physical mute button for the microphone, ensure it's not turned off.
- Some HP laptops have a mic mute key (often F8 or F4), so check that it's not engaged.
Check Zoom, Teams, and Skype Settings
- Open each app and go to Audio Settings.
- Ensure the correct microphone is selected and the input volume is not too low or muted.
Check Microphone Privacy Settings
- Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone.
- Ensure Microphone access is ON for apps like Zoom, Teams, and Word.
Set Microphone as Default Device
- Right-click the Speaker icon in the taskbar and select Sound settings.
- Scroll down to Input and check if your microphone is listed.
- If not, click Manage sound devices and enable any disabled mics.
- Click on your microphone and ensure it is Set as the default device.
Run Windows Troubleshooter
- Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
- Find Recording Audio and run the troubleshooter.
Update or Reinstall Microphone Drivers
- Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
- Expand Audio inputs and outputs.
- Right-click on your microphone and select Update driver > Search automatically.
- If the issue persists, right-click the mic again and select Uninstall device, then restart your laptop to let Windows reinstall the driver.
Let me know if it helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

@Lisa2080, Thank you for your response and patience!
Thank you for trying the previous steps. Let's try few more steps:
Power Drain
- Turn off your laptop.
- Disconnect the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
- Hold the power button for 30-60 seconds to drain residual power.
- Reconnect the battery and charger, then turn on the laptop.
- Test the microphone again.
If this doesn't work, please refer to this video for further troubleshooting for windows 11!
You can also refer to this link.
(Note: This is for windows 10, however try these steps)
Hope this helps!

Hi @Lisa2080,
I appreciate your patience, and I'm sorry you're still facing this issue. Let's try to dig a little deeper to figure out what's going on.
A couple of questions to narrow this down:
When you check Device Manager > Audio inputs and outputs, does your microphone show up at all? If not, can you check View > Show hidden devices and see if it appears?
Have there been any recent Windows updates or software installations around the time the microphone stopped working? Sometimes, updates can cause unexpected driver conflicts.
Since you mentioned your mic isn't detected, can you try booting into Safe Mode and see if it appears there? This will help determine if a third-party application is interfering.
Also, I noticed you mentioned an email issue—could you clarify what's happening there? I'll be happy to help with that too!
Looking forward to your response. We'll get this sorted out together! 😊
