My laptop  mute button turns on and off automatically with frequet MUTE/UNMUTE actions. Also the volume bar drops down as if it is manually done. All this is continuing randomly without any pause. I tried to recover the driver through system recovery, but it never work.

Also when video played, it gets paused+muted automatically at several ocassions.

Please help to recover the issue.

@wendywyy

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂

I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

As I understand the mute button auto switches to on/off,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

Does the issue occur within any other key or is it limited to the mute button alone?

Have you attempted to use an external keyboard to check if that works differently?

Did you check for any other HP Forum posts to help resolve your concern?

If you haven't, Here's a related HP Forums post that seems to have helped others: Click here for the steps.

If you have and yet the issue persists, please reinstall the HP Quick launch from this website: Click here (download driver Version: 7.0.1.1)

(The above link is 3rd party and is not owned by HP, I've posted this only so that I may help you resolve this issue by going beyond by support boundaries, please ignore the ads and take only the free suggestions)

Also, try with an alternate keyboard and let me know if that works,

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Hey! Just for anyone reading this thread, I didn't go into the BIOS to fix this issue. Opening the Sound options from the Control Panel, right-clicking the inbuilt speakers, and clicking Disable, then re-enabling them caused the mute state to stop vacillating without a cold boot and without breaking anything else.

So I have the same problem, but nothing that you guys have said worked.
