Hi @arav83

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like there may be an issue with either the software or the hardware related to the mute light on your Victus by HP 15.6-inch Gaming Laptop.

Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

Check for HP Software Updates:

  • Go to HP Support Assistant and ensure your laptop’s BIOS and all device drivers are up to date, especially audio and system management drivers.
  • Sometimes specific HP utilities handle the function lights, so an update might fix the issue.

Reinstall the HP OSD (On-Screen Display) software:

  • The mute button light might be controlled by the HP OSD software. Try reinstalling it:
    1. Go to the HP website and search for your laptop model.
    2. Download the latest version of the HP OSD Utility or any relevant system control software.
    3. Install it and check if the mute light works again.

BIOS Reset:

  • Resetting your BIOS to default settings might help resolve any system-level issues with the keyboard lights.
    1. Restart your laptop.
    2. Enter the BIOS by pressing the ESC or F10 key during startup.
    3. Look for an option to reset to default settings and save the changes.
    4. Restart the laptop and check if the mute light functions again.

Check the System Tray for HP Quick Launch Buttons:

  • Sometimes, the mute light is controlled by a utility in the system tray (near your clock). Look for any HP Quick Launch Buttons or similar utility that might control the mute light. Ensure it's enabled.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
