Hi @envy-ous17,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Envy 17 is not detecting the internal speakers or microphone, follow these troubleshooting steps.
Check Audio Drivers
- Update Audio Drivers:
- Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
- Right-click on the audio driver (e.g., Realtek High Definition Audio) and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- If updating doesn’t work, try uninstalling and reinstalling:
- Right-click the audio driver and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop to automatically reinstall the driver.
Set Internal Devices as Default
- Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar and select Sounds (or Sound settings in Windows 11).
- Go to the Playback tab:
- Right-click on the internal speakers and select Set as Default Device.
- Go to the Recording tab:
- Right-click on the internal microphone and select Set as Default Device.
- If you don’t see them, right-click anywhere and enable Show Disabled Devices.
Run Audio Troubleshooter
- Open Settings > System > Sound.
- Scroll down and click Troubleshoot under Advanced or Output/Input.
- Follow the prompts to detect and resolve issues.
Check Audio Service
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Locate Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder.
- Ensure both services are running:
- Right-click the service > Select Start (or Restart if already running).
- Set the Startup Type to Automatic.
