Hi @rookiegamer,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing lag while gaming on your HP laptop with a Ryzen 7000 Series 5 processor, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and improve your gaming performance.

  • Check System Requirements: Ensure that the games you are playing are within the system requirements of your laptop. If the games demand more resources than your laptop can provide, it might result in lag.
  • Update Graphics Drivers: Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date. Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers can cause performance issues. Visit the AMD website to download and install the latest graphics drivers for your Ryzen 7000 Series GPU.
  • Adjust Power Settings: Go to your laptop's power settings and ensure that it is set to a performance or gaming mode. This ensures that your system is using its full potential when running games.
  • Check Background Processes: Close unnecessary background applications and processes that might be consuming system resources. This includes any applications running in the system tray that you are not using while gaming.
  • Temperature Monitoring: Overheating can cause performance degradation. Use monitoring tools to check the temperature of your CPU and GPU while gaming. If temperatures are too high, consider investing in a cooling pad or ensure proper ventilation.
  • BIOS/UEFI Update: Check if there are any BIOS or UEFI updates available for your laptop on the HP support website. Sometimes, firmware updates can address performance issues.
  • Adjust In-Game Settings: Lower the in-game graphics settings to see if performance improves. This includes reducing resolution, texture quality, and other graphics settings.
  • Windows Updates: Ensure that your operating system is up to date with the latest Windows updates. Sometimes, updates include optimizations that can enhance gaming performance.
  • Compare System Configurations: Compare your laptop's specifications with your friend's laptop to see if there are any significant differences that might explain the performance gap.

By going through these steps, you should be able to identify and address the potential causes of lag on your HP laptop with a Ryzen 7000 Series 5 processor.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
