Hi @RusticClamp,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I hear your concern on how  it must feel to suddenly lose sound on your HP Pavilion notebook, especially after that unexpected reset.

Let’s try to work through this together and get your audio back up and running.

Before we proceed could you please share the exact model number of your HP Pavilion notebook?

Here are a few  steps you can try :

  1. Check Device Manager Open Device Manager (press Windows key + X → Device Manager) and look under “Sound, video and game controllers.” If you see your audio device with a yellow warning sign, right-click and choose “Update driver.”
  2. Run Windows Troubleshooter Go to Settings → System → Sound → Troubleshoot. Windows will automatically detect and attempt to fix common audio issues.
  3. Reinstall HP Audio Drivers Visit HP’s official support website, enter your Pavilion model number, and download the latest audio driver. Installing the correct driver often resolves sound problems after uninstalling.
  4. Check Playback Devices Right-click the speaker icon in your taskbar → “Open Sound settings” → ensure the correct output device (like “Speakers – Realtek Audio”) is selected.
  5. BIOS/UEFI Reset Sometimes function key resets can change BIOS settings. Restart your laptop, press Esc or F10 during boot, and reset BIOS to default.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
