Hi @mjeroncic,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the sound is not working on your HP Laptop PC 15, you can try the following troubleshooting steps.

  1. Check the basics:

    • Make sure your laptop's volume is turned up. You can find the volume control icon in the taskbar.
    • Ensure that the mute option is not enabled.
  2. Restart your laptop:

    • Sometimes, simply restarting your laptop can resolve minor software glitches.
  3. Update audio drivers:

    • Outdated or incompatible audio drivers can cause sound issues. Update your audio drivers to the latest version.
      • Right-click on the "Start" button and select "Device Manager."
      • Locate the "Sound, video and game controllers" section.
      • Right-click on your audio device and select "Update driver."
  4. Check for Windows updates:

    • Make sure your operating system is up-to-date. Windows updates can include fixes for various issues, including audio problems.
      • Go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Windows Update" and check for updates.
  5. Run the Windows Troubleshooter:

    • Windows has a built-in troubleshooter that can automatically fix common problems.
      • Go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Troubleshoot."
      • Run the troubleshooter for audio problems.
  6. Check the audio settings:

    • Right-click on the volume icon in the taskbar and select "Open Sound settings."
    • Make sure the correct audio output device is selected.
  7. Check for third-party software conflicts:

    • Some third-party applications or drivers may interfere with your audio. Try disabling or uninstalling recently installed software to see if it resolves the issue.
  8. Restore your system:

    • If the issue started recently, you can use System Restore to revert your system to a point where the sound was working.
      • Type "Create a restore point" in the Windows search bar and select the corresponding result.
      • In the System Properties window, click on the "System Restore" button.
  9. Hardware check:

    • Ensure that your speakers or headphones are connected properly.
    • If you're using external speakers or headphones, try connecting them to another device to check if they are functioning correctly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
