Hi @BallDee,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP G71 Notebook is displaying a "No audio output device detected" error, it means that the operating system is unable to detect or recognize your audio hardware. This can happen for various reasons, and you can try the following steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

Check for Hardware Issues:

  • Ensure that your speakers or headphones are properly connected to the audio jack.
  • If you're using external speakers or headphones, make sure they are powered on and functional.
  • If you have a built-in microphone, check if it's working by trying to record audio.

Restart Your Computer:

  • Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve driver or software-related issues.

Check Device Manager (Windows):

  • Right-click on the "Start" button and select "Device Manager."
  • Look for the "Sound, video and game controllers" section and expand it.
  • If you see a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark next to your audio device, it indicates a driver problem. Right-click on the audio device and select "Update driver" to search for driver updates online. If no updates are available, you may need to uninstall and then reinstall the audio driver.

Reinstall Audio Drivers:

  • Go to the HP support website or the manufacturer's website for your audio hardware.
  • Download and install the latest audio drivers for your specific laptop model.
  • Restart your computer after reinstalling the drivers.

Check Sound Settings:

  • Right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar (Windows) or access sound settings in your operating system.
  • Ensure that the correct playback device is selected as the default.

Run Troubleshooters (Windows):

  • In Windows, you can use the built-in troubleshooter to diagnose and fix audio problems. Go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Troubleshoot" and run the "Playing Audio" troubleshooter.

BIOS/UEFI Settings:

  • Access your laptop's BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing a specific key during startup, often F2 or Del) and check if the audio device is enabled.

Check for Physical Damage:

  • Inspect your laptop's audio jack and connectors for physical damage or debris that might be blocking the connection.

System Restore (Windows):

  • If the issue started recently and you're using Windows, you can try using System Restore to revert your system to a previous state when the audio was working. This won't affect your personal files.

Hardware Failure:

  • If none of the above steps work, there may be a hardware issue with your laptop's audio components.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
