@cnecky1, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop has no sound after a Windows update and reinstalling the Realtek driver didn't help, try these steps:

Check Default Playback Device

  1. Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar.
  2. Select Sound settings.
  3. Scroll to Output and make sure the correct device is selected (e.g., Speakers (Realtek Audio)).
  4. If unsure, try different devices and test the sound.

Run Windows Troubleshooter

  1. Press Win + I to open Settings.
  2. Go to System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  3. Find Playing Audio and click Run.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions and apply any fixes.

Roll Back Audio Driver

  1. Press Win + X > Device Manager.
  2. Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
  3. Right-click Realtek Audio > Properties.
  4. Go to the Driver tab > Click Roll Back Driver (if available).
  5. Restart your laptop and test the sound.

Check Audio Services

  1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
  2. Find Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder.
  3. Ensure both services are Running and set to Automatic.
  4. If not running, right-click and select Start.

Disable Audio Enhancements

  1. Right-click the speaker icon > Sound settings.
  2. Click More sound settings (under Advanced settings).
  3. Select your playback device, then click Properties.
  4. Go to the Enhancements tab and check Disable all enhancements.
  5. Click OK and test the sound.

Reinstall Audio Driver (Manually)

  1. Go to Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers.
  2. Right-click Realtek Audio > Uninstall device (check Delete the driver software for this device).
  3. Restart your laptop.
  4. Download the latest driver from the HP Support website for your specific model
  5. Install the driver and restart.

Check for Windows Updates

  1. Go to Settings > Windows Update.
  2. Click Check for updates and install any pending updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
