HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-ec2003nv

I am having VERY poor sound quality.  If I use the laptops speakers the volume is usually pretty low.

When I use my headphones, having tried many different sets including Bluetooth and wired, the sound is garbled unless I use mono audio.  The mono audio is very low as well.

I don't have many problems playing games etc but want to watch a movie or play Youtube the sound is horrible on this laptop.

All drivers updated, I didn't have this problem when I bought the laptop 7 months ago, seems the sound problems are continuously getting worse though.

Hi @jamesw1971,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an audio-related issue with your HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-ec2003nv. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

To assist better:

  • Was there any recent update on the PC prior to the issue?

While you respond to that please try the below steps:

Update the BIOS, & Audio drivers:

  • Here's the link to download and install the above updates: Click here

While you respond to that, here's what you need to do:

Step 1: Right-click on the Start button in the taskbar area and then click Device Manager to open the same.

Step 2: In the Device Manager, expand Sound, video, and game controllers.

Step 3: You should now see your audio driver's name. Most likely you have Realtek High Definition Audio, Right-click on it and then click Uninstall device option.

Step 4: You will now get the following confirmation dialog. Select Delete the driver software for this device checkbox and then the Yes button when you see the confirmation dialog to go ahead and uninstall the device driver.

Restart your PC once & it should auto-reinstall a working driver.

If the issue with the sound continues, The best way to resolve the issue is by using the HP Support Assistant:

If the issue persists, then please follow the steps mentioned in this document to test the speakers: HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures in Windows 10

If the hardware fails, then the PC needs to be sent to HP Service Centre to get it repaired,  I'm sending out a private message to assist you with the next course of action.

Please check your Private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Community profile Next, to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it or simply click on this link.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution. Click the “Kudos/Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!
