 problem is the mute audio button on the top of the keyboard it is engaged when the screen is closed and somehow stays compressed it is a hardware issue where the key at the top right labeled with mute symbol stays compressed after the screen is opened and remains compressed.

If you know someone who works on computers, you will need them to take the keyboard apart get underneath the case and op out the little metal cone or button that actuated the mute button it will probably be stuck in the compressed position which is causing the constant mute issue and cannot be fixed with drivers, bios updates, windows patches or anything else it is a physical hardware issue and needs to be addressed by a technician who is very adept at hardware repair. sorry I could not get to this for you sooner but I had the same issue with the same laptop and repaired it myself, it will not fix any other way.

if we do not start troubleshooting with the hardware first we will never come to the probable conclusion that there is a hardware issue because you will be stuck on software interminably and there are logical steps to computer repair that start with basic I/O first then on to software and drivers.

@jkpatten

Instead of flooding a six month old thread with replies one after the other, consider editing your reply as you rethink what you wanted to say. There are three dots in the upper right hand corner of each thread that offer options.

This is , of course my own opinion,  but try reading what has been posted instead of rehashing what has already been suggested by other members.

BTW, if the standard @1/8 inch gap that , by design, should exist between the screen section and the keyboard section still is present on the original author's notebook, there is virtually no chance of that bit you suggested about the F6/Mute key being stuck being a reality.  Just sayin'!

I am a volunteer forum member. If my suggestion helped you solve your issue, help others by marking that post as the accepted solution. Say thanks by clicking on the Yes button next to the "was this reply helpful?"
