Hi @chakra16,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can imagine how frustrating it must be to hear that persistent crackling from your right speaker, especially after updating drivers and expecting things to improve. Let’s walk through a few steps that go beyond basic driver updates and help you get back to clear, crisp audio.

Fixing Right Speaker Crackling on HP 15s-eq0500AU (440L6PA)

1. Disable Audio Enhancements

Sometimes enhancements cause distortion.

  • Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar → Sounds.
  • Go to the Playback tab → select your speaker → Properties.
  • Go to the Enhancements tab → check Disable all enhancements.
  • Click Apply and OK.

2. Change Audio Format

Try a different sample rate:

  • In the same Properties window, go to the Advanced tab.
  • Change the Default Format to 16-bit, 44100 Hz (CD Quality).
  • Test the sound again.

3. Check for Interference

Move your laptop away from other electronic devices (routers, phones, etc.) that might cause electrical interference.

4. Use HP Support Assistant

  • Open HP Support Assistant from the Start menu.
  • Go to Device > Audio and run diagnostics.
  • It may offer a fix or confirm hardware issues.

5. Test with Headphones

If headphones sound fine, the issue may be hardware-related in the speaker itself.

6. Reinstall Audio Driver

Even if updated, a clean reinstall can help:

  • Go to Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers.
  • Right-click your audio device (likely Realtek) → Uninstall device.
  • Restart your laptop. Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
