simple mute for microphone?

There is an easy way to mute the speakers on my Envy...but is there a way to mute the mic?

I'm not asking about how to turn it off completely....I know how to do that.

I'm looking for a mute like on my Samsung Galaxy....click on;  click off.

Welcome to the HP Forums, this is a great location to get assistance! I read your post and see that you want to mute the microphone on your HP Notebook. I would like to help you resolve this issue. 

There is no physical button to mute the mic, however you follow the below steps to mute it using the software:

• Right click on the speaker icon on the right bottom corner of the notebook display.
• Click recording and right click on Microphone.
• Click on properties then select levels.
• Under Microphone, click on speaker icon to mute it.

Sandy....

Your 2nd step "click recording" is not there.

When I right click the speaker icon in the taskbar I see:

Open Volume Mixer

OPen Sound Setting

Spatial Sound (off)  >

Sounds

Troubleshoot sound problems

If I click on 'Sounds" I go to SETTINGS and then pick

SOUND and the RECORDING tab

and see the window in your 1st image

But, from there, I need to select the

LEVELS tab to mute the mic

So, you should update your instructions

And,

! there must be an easier way!!

Any way to have a desktop shortcut to the Microphone Properties?

is it possible to create a shortcut that will open the control panel window...the one that has the mic mute?

It is not possible to create a shortcut on the desktop to mute the microphone.
