Hi @valentino12

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your sound stopped working after updating your drivers, even though the system shows that the driver is functioning correctly, it could be due to several issues, such as misconfigured settings, conflicts, or incomplete driver installations. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and restore your sound:

1. Check the Volume and Mute Settings

Sometimes, the sound issue is as simple as the system being muted or the volume being too low.

  • Check the volume: Ensure that the volume on your computer is turned up.
  • Check the speaker icon: Look for a speaker icon on the taskbar (for Windows) or menu bar (for macOS) to ensure that the sound isn’t muted or set to zero.
  • Unmute system: If the speaker icon has a red "X" or "slash" through it, right-click the icon and select Unmute.

2. Ensure the Correct Audio Output is Selected

If your sound output has switched to the wrong device (e.g., to Bluetooth or an HDMI port), it could cause the sound to not play.

For Windows:

  1. Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select Open Sound settings.
  2. In the "Output" section, check that the correct device (e.g., your speakers or headphones) is selected.
  3. If the wrong output is selected, change it to the correct one.

For macOS:

  1. Click the Apple menu and choose System Preferences.
  2. Go to Sound and ensure that the correct output device is selected.

3. Restart the Audio Services (Windows)

Sometimes, audio services can fail to start properly after a driver update. You can restart these services to resolve the issue.

  1. Press Win + R to open the Run dialog box.
  2. Type services.msc and press Enter to open the Services window.
  3. Scroll down and find Windows Audio. Right-click it and select Restart.
  4. Do the same for Windows Audio Endpoint Builder if it’s listed.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
