Hi @bessie7881,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the sound is not working on your video chat and you can't be heard on your laptop, here are several troubleshooting steps you can take to potentially resolve the issue:

Check Microphone Settings:

  • Ensure that your microphone is not muted either in the video chat software or on your laptop.
  • Check the sound settings on your laptop to make sure the correct microphone is selected as the default recording device.

Test the Microphone:

  • Use your laptop’s built-in sound recorder or an online service to record a test audio clip. This will help you determine if the issue is with the video chat software or the microphone itself.

Adjust Application Settings:

  • Open the settings in your video chat application. Make sure that the microphone is selected and not disabled or muted within the app.
  • Check for any updates for the video chat application, as updates can often fix bugs related to audio issues.

Check Audio Drivers:

  • Outdated or corrupted audio drivers can cause problems with the microphone. Visit the laptop HP website and download the latest drivers for your model.

Use Troubleshooting Tools:

  • If you are using Windows, you can use the built-in audio troubleshooter by searching for "Troubleshoot sound problems" in the Windows search bar.
  • If you're on a Mac, check the System Preferences under "Sound" to ensure everything is configured correctly.

Restart Your Laptop:

  • Sometimes, simply restarting your laptop can resolve audio issues as it resets the software configurations and drivers.

Check for Physical Issues:

  • Examine the microphone area to ensure it's not blocked by dust or debris.
  • If you're using an external microphone, check the connection and try using a different USB port or another microphone to determine if the issue is with the port or the external mic.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
