Hi @Zoe131,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

When your HP Notebook shows “No audio device installed”, it feels like the sound has vanished into thin air, silent keys, muted notifications, and no music to fill the room. Let’s bring that sound back step by step.

Why This Happens

  • Audio drivers are missing or corrupted.
  • Windows update removed the audio device.
  • BIOS or hardware settings disabled the sound card.

Troubleshooting Steps (with empathy)

1. Check Device Manager

  • Press Windows + X → Device Manager.
  • Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
  • If you see no audio device or a yellow exclamation mark, the driver is missing.

2. Reinstall Audio Driver

  • Go to HP Support:
    👉 Official HP® Support
Enter your notebook model and download the latest Realtek or Conexant audio driver.
  • Install and restart, listen for that soft Windows chime when it powers back up.

3. Run HP Support Assistant

4. Check Windows Audio Service

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc.
  • Find Windows Audio, make sure it’s running.
  • If stopped, right-click → Start.

5. BIOS Check

  • Restart and press F10 for BIOS.
  • Ensure Audio Device is enabled under Advanced.

6. Windows Troubleshooter

  • Settings → System → Sound → Troubleshoot.
  • Follow prompts; sometimes it’s just a small setting hiding the sound.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
