I have had a problem with my sound for several weeks. The quality through my earphones has deteriorated (looks like they are very old, bad ears). This was of course not the case in the past, it is also not due to my ears, because they still work perfectly in my mobile phone. What can I do about it?

@Esther123 I'd love to help you clear this sound issue, although, I was curious to know if the sound is distorted or is it just too low? Did you check if the sound is better when connecting alternate headphone or earphone to the laptop? if not, please do.

Meanwhile, here's what else you could do to fix the issue:

Audio devices might need to be disconnected from the computer during the troubleshooting process.

   CAUTION:

Always follow manufacturer instructions for disconnecting USB devices from the computer. Some USB devices must be turned off and/or ejected before they are disconnected from the computer. Some other USB devices support the Windows Safely Remove Hardware feature.

Make sure Windows can produce sound from the speakers before using this article. If the computer cannot play sound from the speakers, choose one of the HP support documents below to resolve that issue:

The best way to do that is using the HP Guided Troubleshooter:

Click here to access it (simply select your description of the issue from the bottom of the screen to gain access to the next set of steps that should resolve your concern).

The volume is good, the music is distorted, I can best describe it when there is no good bass.. It's the same with other earphones/headphones to (who are in my phone realy good).

@Esther123 Alright, if the issue persists on alternate headphones as well, we may need to start with a hardware test to ensure this isn't a hardware issue with the audio card, use the below steps to get started:

Install the latest version of the HP Hardware diagnostics (UEFI) on your device using this link: Click here for details

  • Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  • Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  • On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.
  • Click Extensive Test.
  • Click Run once, or Loop until error.
  • While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component display on the screen.

If a component fails a test, write down the failure ID (24-digit code) for when you respond back to us.

I have exactly the same problem as Esther with my HP Pavilion Laptop 15-cw1xxx, the audio is flat and  there is no bass sound at all. The HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Window does a very simple test about the audio, and the diagnostic says there is no problem, because the sound is heard after all, but the quality of sound is bad. Please understand, this is a problem of quality of sound, related to the lack of  frequency of the sound. There is no bass frequency, the bass is not heard at all. And it appears to be in mono sound also, because of the flatness.
I am a musician, and I have other 3 computers (1 desk pc and 2 laptops). I have been recording audio in my Pavilion desktop PC since 1998, and it still works perfectly and records the sound as I hear it from the midi keyboard. I can say the same about the other lap tops (one Pavilion and one Toshiba), but not about the HP Pavilion Laptop 15-cw1xxx.
When I use Protools to reproduce midi files with virtual sound instruments, I hear them with the frequencies as it should. But after I record the session, the sound file lacks of low frequencies at all. It does not matter which program I use to record or play, the result is always the same. When I record from an external midi keybord, it also loose the low frequencies. And all this happens even if I use the computer speakers, or the earphones, or external speakers (through an audio out). I did all the tests I could during a month, and I just conclude the sound card does not work propperly, or even the audio driver.
I bought  the laptop in Wallmart, in Mexico 6 months ago, and the publicity says it was made specially for media creators, with loud and clear audio by B&O. That was why I chose this computer, but now I am dissapointed.
You considere that the problem is solved with the troubleshooter, but it is not. And I can send audio files for you to compare.
As I see in the case of Esther, I am not the only one with this problem. I saw other musician on the internet  in the same circumstances. So, please make the test on a computer of the same model and compare it. You will notice that this is not a matter of the user or software.
Thanks for your attention.
