@helpplease40, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're having trouble getting sound to play through your AOPEN monitor when it's connected to your HP Laptop PC 15s-fq2000. Let's walk through the steps to resolve this.
Likely Cause:
Most monitors (including AOPEN models) can carry audio over HDMI, but your laptop may still be set to use its internal speakers by default.
Step-by-Step Fix:
Check HDMI Audio Support
Ensure your AOPEN monitor has built-in speakers or an audio-out port (for external speakers/headphones). If not, audio will only play through the laptop.
Set HDMI as Default Playback Device
- Right-click the Sound icon in the taskbar (bottom-right).
- Click "Sounds" or "Open Sound settings".
- Under Output, look for a device like:
- AOPEN Monitor
- Digital Audio (HDMI)
- Select it and click Set Default.
- Click OK to apply.
Update Audio Drivers
- Go to the HP Support page for your model.
- Download and install the latest Realtek Audio Driver and Intel Graphics Driver (HDMI audio is often tied to graphics drivers).
- Restart your laptop.
Test the Audio
- Play a YouTube video or music file.
- Make sure the monitor volume is turned up (if it has speakers).
- If using external speakers via the monitor, ensure they’re connected properly.
Still Not Working?
- Try a different HDMI cable.
- Test the monitor with another device (like a different laptop or console).
- Run the HP Audio Check tool via HP Support Assistant.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
