Hi @Mwaungulu,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Pavilion X360 laptop's audio is stuck on mute, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.
- Check the physical mute button: Many laptops have a physical mute button or switch, usually located on the keyboard or the side of the laptop. Ensure that the mute button is not activated or switched on.
- Use the volume control: Look for the volume control keys on your keyboard (usually represented by speaker icons). Press the volume up key repeatedly to increase the volume and see if the sound comes back. Make sure you're not pressing the volume mute key by mistake.
- Check the volume settings in the operating system.
- On Windows: Right-click on the speaker icon in the system tray (usually located at the bottom-right corner of the screen) and select "Open Volume Mixer." Check if the volume slider for the application you're using is set to mute or low. Also, make sure the main volume slider is not muted or too low.
- On macOS: Click on the speaker icon in the menu bar and drag the volume slider to the right. You can also go to "System Preferences" > "Sound" and adjust the output volume there.
- Restart the laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve software glitches. Restart your HP Pavilion X360 and check if the audio is working normally after the reboot.
- Update audio drivers: Outdated or incompatible audio drivers can cause sound-related issues. Visit the official HP support website, enter your laptop's model number, and download the latest audio drivers available for your specific model. Install the drivers and restart your laptop to see if it resolves the mute issue.
- Run the audio troubleshooter: Both Windows and macOS have built-in audio troubleshooting tools that can help identify and fix common audio problems. On Windows, you can search for "Troubleshoot" in the Start menu and select "Troubleshoot settings." Then, choose "Playing Audio" and follow the on-screen instructions. On macOS, you can go to "System Preferences" > "Sound" > "Output" and click on "Troubleshoot."
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
