HP Pavilion x360 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-ek1000 (78F12AV)

My 2 in 1 came with Bang and Olufsen speakers.  Yesterday the sound suddenly went on the laptop .. when I restarted the device sound returned but via Realtek speakers and the Bang and Olufsen ones are now nowhere to be found so to speak on the device, they are no longer listed as even being present  and IO know they should be as I'm looking at the B & O logo on the device below they keyboard... how do I get the laptop to see or recognise them again please.  I'm really confused

Hi @sammj1969,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

It sounds like your HP Pavilion x360 2-in-1 laptop is experiencing an issue where the Bang & Olufsen (B&O) speakers are no longer being recognized by the system, and instead, the sound is being output through the generic Realtek audio drivers. This could be due to a driver issue, a software conflict, or even a hardware malfunction. Here’s how you can troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

1. Check Device Manager for Missing Drivers

  • Open Device Manager:
    • Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
  • Expand "Sound, video and game controllers":
    • Look for any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs next to the audio devices.
    • If the B&O speakers or related audio device isn’t listed, it might indicate a driver issue.

2. Reinstall the Audio Driver

  • Uninstall the Current Audio Driver:
    • In Device Manager, right-click on the Realtek High Definition Audio device and select Uninstall device. Check the box that says Delete the driver software for this device and then click Uninstall.
  • Restart Your Laptop:
    • After uninstalling the driver, restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the audio drivers.
  • Download and Install the Latest Driver:
    • Go to the HP Support website and download the latest audio drivers specific to your model. Make sure you choose the driver that supports the Bang & Olufsen speakers.
  • Install HP Audio Control:
    • HP Audio Control might be required to enable the B&O features. Ensure this software is installed and up-to-date.

3. Update or Roll Back Windows Updates

  • Check for Recent Windows Updates:
    • Sometimes, Windows updates can cause hardware issues. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and see if there have been any recent updates.
  • Roll Back Recent Updates:
    • If the problem started after a recent update, try rolling it back. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery and select Go back to the previous version of Windows 10/11 (if available).
  • Pause Updates:
    • If rolling back solves the issue, consider pausing updates until a fix is confirmed.

4. Run the Windows Audio Troubleshooter

  • Open the Troubleshooter:
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
  • Run the "Playing Audio" Troubleshooter:
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to see if Windows can automatically detect and fix the problem.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @sammj1969

Please find the remaining steps below.

5. Check Audio Output Settings

  • Right-click on the Speaker Icon:
    • Located in the taskbar, select Sounds.
  • Set the Correct Playback Device:
    • Under the Playback tab, ensure the correct audio device is set as the default (it should list the B&O speakers if they’re detected).
  • Test the Speakers:
    • Select the speakers and click Test to see if they produce sound.

6. BIOS/UEFI Update

  • Check for BIOS/UEFI Updates:
    • Visit the HP Support website and see if there’s a BIOS update available for your model. Sometimes, a BIOS update can fix hardware detection issues.
  • Update BIOS Carefully:
    • Follow the instructions on the HP site carefully to update the BIOS, as incorrect updates can cause other problems.

7. Reset or Reinstall Windows

  • Reset Audio Settings:
    • If the issue persists, consider resetting your audio settings to their default configuration.
  • Reinstall Windows:
    • As a last resort, you can perform a clean reinstall of Windows. This will remove any software conflicts that might be causing the issue, but make sure to back up your data first.

8. Hardware Check

  • Physical Connection:
    • While rare, a loose connection inside the laptop could cause the speakers to disconnect. If you're comfortable opening the laptop (or if it's under warranty, have a technician do it), check the connections.

If none of the above steps work, the issue might be hardware-related. Contact HP Phone Support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
