Hii
Im using hp envy 15 with windows 10 64 bit os
From the last couple of days im facing a problem with volume increment. As soon as i switch on the computer the volume boosts upto 100 as if someone has kept the button pressed. When i try to lower it, again it boosts up.The volume is always appearing on the screen.
Ive updated the audio driver(realtek high definition audio) to the latest version. When installed it topped for a couple of seconds and again started to increase.
Please suggest a solution to stop it from increasing as im unable to use my headphones with my laptop.
You can see the screenshot top left corner volume at 100.
Thanks in advance!

Hi @rahulv1,
Welcome to the HP Forum! 🙂 Thank you for becoming a HP Forum member. It is a dynamite location to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others. For you have the best experience, here is a link for you to review, should you have any concerns: First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More
I grasp that a couple of days ago your volume will automatically go to almost 100% and when you try adjusting the volume it just reverts back to where is was. Were there any changes made to your system prior to this occurrence? (ex would be an update). Have you tried running the Windows troubleshooter? Have you run the HP Support Assistant to aid with any recommended HP updates? Although you have sound, the steps in the following documentation could also help. HP Notebook PCs - No Sound from Speakers (Windows 10). If the issue remains please try the following:
Go to Windows Device Manager >Sound, video, and game controllers section.
- In the list of audio device drivers, look for Realtek High Definition Audio.
- Right-click and select Disable. The downward arrow displays on this driver, indicating it is disabled. (NOTE: At this point, you won’t be able to play any audio files.)
- Right-click and select Update Driver Software.
- Select Browse my computer for driver software.
- Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer. You should see a window that says Select the device driver you want to install for this hardware. NOTE: If you see a window that says something like This is the best driver for this device, exit the window and repeat steps 4, 5, and 6.
- In the Model box, highlight High Definition Audio Device (this is the substitute audio device driver) and click Next.
- At the Update Driver Warning window, click Yes. You should see a confirmation window with High Definition Audio Device displayed. Click Close.
- In the list of audio device drivers in the Sound, video, and game controllers section, you’ll notice that the High Definition Audio Device now displays instead of Realtek High Definition Audio.
At the prompt to reboot, click Yes.
Thanks! If this helps you to reach a solution, please click the "Accept as Solution" button down below in this message. If you wish to say "thanks" for my effort to help, click the "Thumbs Up" to give me a Kudos. :catvery-happy:

Hi @rahulv,
Thank you for the update.
Have you checked for viruses and malware? If you have a restore point from before this occurred, you could restore back to that point in time. HP PCs - Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 10, 😎. If the difficulty remains, I suggest doing a reset. HP PCs - Microsoft Push-Button Reset (Windows 10) Next I would do a full recovery back to the factory settings. HP PCs - Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 10). Please let me know the results.

Hi @rahulv1,
Thank you for the reply. I understand that you have done a reset and are now running Windows 8 again, but the volume issue remains. Have you run the HP Support Assistant ? If you roll back the driver, is there any change?
- Go to Device Manager
- Right click on audio to expand the list
- Right click on speakers and choose properties
- Click on the driver tab and you should see a button to rollback the driver
If you do not have the option to roll back the driver then, please
- download and save the Windows 8.1 driver to a known location.
- Uninstall and delete the existing audio driver.
- restart the notebook
- install the driver you just saved.
Please let me know the results.

@rahulv1 @Sparkles1 This is a serious problem for me. I have the exact same problem you do on my HP 360 Spectre. It must be something about our HP laptops that share the same flaw.
Did you ever find a fix for this?
